Like his main character David, Gary has always sought to lift up those around him and touch their lives in a positive way. From his early school years through college and his varied careers in retail management, education and working for the federal government, Gary put into practice his desire to help and uplift those he interacts with. Doing things for others had always been his driving force. And he wanted to do more.
Upon reaching a crossroad in his life, Gary knew there had to be a way to inspire a large number of people with his message of lifting people up. He wondered what the world would look like if we all kept our promises? How different would our own lives be if we stayed true to our promises? In his novels, he explores how lives change when promises are kept.
After several starts and stops, Gary fulfilled his bucket list dream of writing a book with his first, The Promise. His second novel, The Rules, takes David’s journey to new heights. Gary is currently writing his third book, The Crossroads. The message throughout his novels encourages us to be agents of change.
A lifelong Western New Yorker, Gary Friedman has a Bachelor’s degree in management/marketing and a Master’s degree in counselor/education, both from Canisius College in Buffalo. His three vastly different careers encompassing 17 years in retail management, nine year in education and the past 20 years working for the federal government, have allowed him to lift up a wide variety of people from all walks of life.
